Getting to know people better can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be! So you’re going to a party, work event, or other gathering but you’re afraid you won’t have anything to talk about? Or maybe you’re just in a bubbly mood and want to strike up a conversation with a stranger? Here are 10 questions you can dive into for deeper connection:
What are some of the things you wish you knew when you were younger? What advice or wisdom would you pass along?
If you wrote a love letter to your current and younger self, what would you say?
Have there been times when you felt like giving up? Do you believe your path so far (career, school, hobbies, etc.) have shaped you and how so? Is there specific advice you would like to give to those who might go through similar experiences to yours?
I always love talking to people about their passions and “dreams”. I put dreams in quotations because I believe that even though they are the things we see in our sleep, they are the exact reason why we were put on Earth - to fulfill our purpose. What are your goals and aspirations that may be yet to come?
I’ve heard Jay Shetty talk about an idea he learned in monk school - that your breath is the most important aspect of your being because it always stays with you throughout your life. For example: You might move, change jobs, get a new spouse, experience hardships and joyous events; but your breath is that one constant throughout. It’s here from the moment you’re born until the moment you pass on. If you pay attention to it, you can begin to understand the power it has to change your present state. Is there a mantra, quote or learning that has always stuck with you along your life’s journey? What has it meant to you?
Is there a certain experience that you lived through that challenged your beliefs or tested your character? What did you learn from it?
What are some of the daily rituals you practice that help ensure you will get the most fulfillment out of the day?
Mental health is something that is so imperative and yet has not been taken seriously enough in America until recently. Do you have insights and thoughts on awareness both from a societal standpoint, or from your personal experience and perspective?
The power of mindfulness and intention is so powerful. I am so grateful that we can discuss it as human beings. How has mindfulness and being self-aware guided you or enriched your life along your journey?
We should never judge a book by its cover. Do you think you might get judged solely on appearance at times? What is something you wish more people knew about you?
I hope these conversation starters and ideas foster more opportunities for you in you day-to-day! Remember - we are just one chat away from learning from each other!
